BEHIND

THE VEIL

نیمه ی پنهان

Life in Iran is split in halves: the half lived in the open and the half lived behind closed doors. And this duality goes deep: every man and woman in Iran leads two lives, an external life that conforms to the pressures and norms of the society and an internal life governed by the wants and needs of the person. Therefore half of our true identity has always been hidden and we are not able to project a very honest image of ourselves.

THIS IMAGE IS REMINISCENT OF THE EXPERIENCES OF MYSELF AND THE MAJORITY OF INDIVIDUALS IN IRAN.

BEHIND THE VIEL

نیمه ی پنهان

So we are all literally and unwillingly two-faced : one fake and one real, one is our true self and the other is the fake image that our rulers made of us by strict set of moral and social codes. The worst part is you are labeled based on how you look and behave.

In this project, I aim to highlight the duality of life in Iran and the consequences it brings upon the individuals and the society as a whole. Since every man and woman in Iran leads two lives - an external life that conforms to the norms of society and an internal life governed by their own wants and needs. This duality has resulted in half of their true identity being hidden, leading to a widespread sense of hypocrisy and mistrust.

In support of the "women, life, freedom" uprising in Iran and in solidarity with the courageous Iranian women and girls who are peacefully demonstrating for their human rights, I hope to raise awareness of this issue and strive towards a future where individuals can freely project their true selves without fear of judgment or oppression.
